How Season 2 of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' fits perfectly with comic continuity
Tuesday, October 7, 2014

So-called “fanboys” can be the worst sometimes because many don’t even read comics, they are just net trolls running off at the mouth. Some asked, how is there going to be a Season 2 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., if S.H.I.E.L.D. was dismantled in Captain America: The Winter Soldier? When the Season 1 finale answered that question, many didn’t like the answer and thought Fury asking Coulson to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. was a cop-out, an easy answer so they could continue the show.

Well, in The Official Handbook Of The Marvel Universe Update ’89 there is an entry for S.H.I.E.L.D. II and it reads:
After the Delta Affair, in which the original law enforcement agency called S.H.I.E.L.D. and the committee which directed it were revealed to be severely compromised, S.H.I.E.L.D. was disbanded by order of the United Nations Security Council. However, the U.N. soon realized that there existed threats to world safety against which conventional covert agencies were ineffective, and less than a year after S.H.I.E.L.D. was dissolved, Col. Nicholas Fury was called out of retirement to form a covert operations organization which would take the place of the previous incarnation. This new organization – which would also be called S.H.I.E.L.D. – would be organized along lines which would make it less vulnerable to the internal problems that brought down its predecessor. This new S.H.I.E.L.D. would be a smaller, tighter agency, more efficient and easier for one man – Fury – to supervise. More importantly, Fury would have total authority over its operation, and he himself would be answerable only to the United Nations itself. Thus, this incarnation would be all but impervious to the corruption and infiltration that destroyed the first S.H.I.E.L.D. The exact configuration of this new agency has yet to be determined, as Fury is still in the process of assembling it.

So, they are obviously running with a classic S.H.I.E.L.D. storyline for Season 2 even though some of the details have been changed.

Rejoice comic fans, we are living in an age where our childhood heroes have become the darlings of popular culture!
