Forza Motorsport 6 is here and it is the best racing game I’ve played since Gran Turismo 3 and Forza Motorsport 4. Forza 5 was enjoyable and had some nice new maps but people where not too happy with the scant amount of vehicles and content in the game. Now, with this installment the developers have listened to the fans and tossed in over 450 vehicles and a ton of maps that should keep you busy.
One of the biggest new features for me is the addition of rain and the night time racing. Not only do these things enhance the game’s visuals but it also adds some wonderful new aspects to the gameplay. The rain causes puddles which can cause spinning out, or even possibly crashing if you hit those puddles at a certain angle. For the night racing it takes awhile for the wheels to get warm and for your control to be right where you want it.
The audio once again is some of the best in the business, the controls are great, and the multi-player gets high marks. The career mode is well done as well, but not perfect. There is five volumes you have to complete which include: Super Street, Sports Icons, Grand Touring, Professional Racing and Ultimate Motorsport. You make your way through these series, picking a different car for each. The vehicles look great, have unique handling, and are a blast to rip around in.
One of my favorite new tracks is the Rio track, having been to Rio before I was blown away by the level of detail and vibrant colour in this level. As you race down the mountains to the beach, you can almost taste the Caipirinhas. Speaking of new stuff, I find the new mod feature to be an awesome addition. For single-player races you can add-on little bonuses that add a new layer of customization.
Some felt Forza Motorsport 5 was too bare bones. Those people should be very happy to hear that Forza Motorsport 6 is a huge step up in content, offering a generous amount of everything. This is without a doubt the biggest racing game I have ever played.
Lastly, it’s good to see that they took out the ability to spend real money on micro transactions, you can now buy anything with in-game credit that you win during your career and multi-player. The community was not to happy with that aspect of the last game.
