Two great tastes that taste great together; that’s Borderlands 2. If you like shooters or you like RPGs, or if you like both, then the Borderlands series is worth checking out. That said, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Regardless, it’s a solid game.

Allow me to elaborate. Borderlands 2 picks up where the first left off, a group of mercenaries called Vault Hunters have finally discovered their sought after prize, the Vault! But rather than being filled with riches, it was filled with a horrible, disgusting monster. They fought the monster, but it unleashed something on the world… oh, why am I telling you this? You don’t care what the plot is! It’s the witty one-liners and the excellent gameplay that make this game awesome.

Everything you love from the first game is back: four classes to choose from, customization and leveling up, a seemingly endless cornucopia of weapons to add to your arsenal, unique vehicle combat and hilarious dialogue from the denizens of the world Pandora. And the cherry on the top of the Borderlands franchise…the ability to play co-op with your friends. This is where the game really shines. Playing solo is fun enough, but becomes a bit isolated, much akin to Skyrim or the Fallout series. This is where teaming up with your friends takes the game to a whole new level. Playing with up to three friends, you can each use your classes to wreak utter havoc on the unsuspecting hordes of Pandora.

At the end of the day, Borderlands is a strong series, and the latest entry does not disappoint. If you’re a fan of shooters, it’s a fun diversion while you’re waiting for the next Call of Halo: Modern War Duty to come out, and if you like RPGs then it has the customization and replay-abilty you so crave. Borderlands 2 is available now on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
