I love documentaries about obscure or hidden subcultures. This doc is about the concert poster scene born of the punk and indie rock eras. It features all the most important artists in the scene and each breaks down what makes a good poster and why they do it. You learn that it has much more to do with the love of music, than any sort of payment. Most are happy with getting into the show free and having a couple drinks on the band tab. The story of the poster art movement runs paraellel to the rise and fall of punk, garage and indie rock. It's not just about the pretty art with these posters, often it's about shocking people or pissing them off. Many of these posters are quite collectible and a community has formed around the creation, selling, and trading of these 11 x 17 works of art. These artists' philosophy and applied symbolism is as real and cryptic as grafitti culture. I highly recommend this doc to music fans and graphic artists alike, in fact, I recommend it to anybody who enjoys good art.
