Tis the season to watch, rent and buy tons of DVDs. I don't know about yall but I'm gonna need a good supply of movies to get me thru these cold, rainy months. December is only two weeks away and it's only getting colder. So, why not stock up on a pile of DVDs. Wanna get the most bang for your buck? Then go for a triple feature. It's like going to a drive-in but you're in your own living room. This is three movies packaged in one set on two discs. I got the glorious '90s action movie throwback set of Blade, Spawn and Mortal Kombat to review. It's two black superhero movies and one video game flick. Being that I've seen Blade so many times, I decided to jump right into Spawn. Mostly because I was a huge fan of the comics when the series first dropped back in the day. The movie has some ill visual effects and some over the top antics by Jon Legizamo. I appreciate the ambition it took to make a Spawn movie but it came off kind of cheesy and never really captured the greatness of the comic book. After that I got into Mortal Kombat. There was the nostalgia factor but regardless the fight choreography was pathetic. I did like the on-screen version of Scorpion though. "Get over here!" The occasionally entertaining moments were fleeting. The next day I ended up watching Blade. I know we done called Snipes out for making The Art of War 2, but he's still the muthafuckin' man. Remember Passenger 57? Damn rights, you do! Blade is one of my favorite '90s flicks. My only complaint about watching this was that it made me want to watch the whole Blade Trilogy again.
