This was an amazing work of film. It took a subject as bland as malls and uncovered an invisible history. It's incredible how the ideals and concepts behind these indoor shopping centres parallels the current state of humanity. This is not an enviromental movie as much as it is a film about capitalism run wild. It belongs in the enviable company of important docs like The Corporation and Blue Gold. But like them, where it falters is the length of the film and the mass of information you're expected to absorb. An element that lends validity to the artistic value of the whole endevour is the super chill soundtrack by Air. It reminded me of how intriguing it was when DJ Shadow did the soundtrack for the gritty documentary Dark Days. Another note of interest is Ray Bradbury's involvement in a design firm specializing in malls. Who'd a thunk it? Do yourself a favour and see this film. You just may feel different about going to the mall next time you need a new fitted.
