Better than its graphic novel counterpart, Satan Factory is the first prose book of Lobster Johnson’s adventures. Lobster Johnson is a pulp hero that spins out of the Hellboy universe and although his first comic series was slightly disappointing, the pulp novel format seems to be a better fit. Our author, Thomas E. Sniegoski is smart enough to know that telling his story through the eyes of the Lobster’s crew, a group of lost souls that he has watching the streets for him, is a great way to keep the mystery of our hero alive. We never get close enough to him to take away the intrigue of the character and that goes a long way towards the atmosphere of the series. Add into the mix some of Mignola’s sinister monsters and a madman hell bent on ruling the world, and you’ve got a pretty fun read.
