With so much changing in the Batman universe under the guidance of Grant Morrison, one wonders when we’ll be able to get back to the basics. Bruce is dead. Bruce has a son. Nightwing is under the cowl now. Damian is Robin. And all the while, Morrison is writing some of the most tripped out, esoteric stories that most people won’t understand unless they read his interviews where he explains himself. In a midst of all the insanity, the Resurrection of Ra’s Al Ghul has to be one of the more tame books. You might benefit from knowing a little more about the current continuity than your casual reader, but the story is pretty simple to follow compared to Morrison’s current fare. This may have something to do with his sharing the writing chores here with Paul Dini and others. Each writes a different Bat-title that all crossover in this one story. It grounds some of Morrison’s more unusual flights of fancy, but at the same time the shift in writing styles is also noticeable from issue to issue. Overall the book is entertaining and fun, and worth a read.
