Leading up to the release of the feature-length movie Push, Wildstorm have been releasing a prequel miniseries. While Push seems like a comicbook adaptation, it's not, so the comics are a smart move. The first three issues here bring us up to speed on the super-secret Division and its gifted agents. The agents have mental powers and we get the rundown of nicknames for the categories of psychic abilities: Mover, Sniffer, Bleeder, Phaser, Changer and of course Pusher. Like many espionage/intelligence agent plots, there is something fishy going on at said agency and senior agent Ezra senses a set up. With superpowers that are mostly manifested in the mind you may think the action here is minimal, but no, in fact there is ample guns and blood splatter. By the third issue Ezra has gathered a team of Division agents loyal to him and he is about to make his move. Two artists share the workload here with Bruno Redondo handling the present tense, while Minier illustrates the flashbacks that occur each issue. Bruno's style meshes with the story and compliments the subject matter but Minier's flashbacks are beautiful black and white visions that are the highlight of these first three issues. Even if the movie is bombing at the box office, this comic series is definitely worth checking out.
