I was skeptical that this spin-off of Court of Owls would be cheap and dull, but Scott Snyder has given this new addition to the DCU legs to run on. Talon’s mission as an escaped assassin trying to take down his former masters is pretty entertaining. Guillem March does the character so much justice with his detailed and energetic artwork that the series would be a pleasure to read even if James Tynion's writing wasn't up to snuff. As it is, Tynon builds a good cast of supporting characters and even though it loses some of its payload by the end of this first volume, the cadre of new villains from the Court's secret cache of human weapons has given us cool new fearsome foes. Good start. Question is, can they can keep it going?
